Over the years, we have had a lot of requests from foreign residents in Vigo for driving lessons in English. The government’s official written test is conducted in English in many prefectures. After spending 4-5 years for preparation, we started the service in 2008.

Traffic Headquarters doesn’t permit lessons with interpreters for foreign students because they said it would be unfair for certain people to have such personal assistance. So we decided to start offering lessons in English. As long as students take the same lessons as Spanish, it is fair.

Documents needed:

• A certificate of psychophysical aptitude issued by the Authorised Drivers Check Centre (Centro de Reconocimiento de Conductores Autorizado) with one photo. This certificate is valid for a period of 90 days.
• Application bolsos de imitacion and application fee.
• Two passport-sized photographs.
• Photocopy (and original) of a Spanish residence permit (Residencia) or a copy of the passport along with the NIE number (Número de Identificación de Extranjero).

There are two parts to the test, one theoretical and one practical. Both must be passed to be considered competent.

Driving theory test

Training for the theory test can be done with OLIVICA driving school which provides you lots of test that you can practice on a computer. In our driving school we have English translations of the highway code and exam questions available.

The theory test is a multiple choice exam of 30 questions; 27 must be answered correctly. They cover all matters related to the rules of the road, and a general understanding of car mechanics and first aid.

Driving test

A set number of hours driver training must be completed with a driving school. In OLIVICA DRIVING SCHOOL you can find an English speaking driving instructor.

The practical test is taken in a driving school (dual control) car and the driving instructor accompanies the examiner  and person being tested. The examiner gives you instructions in English (if the examiner can speak English) or in Spanish (and your English speaking driving instructor translates them to you).
